There were more cases of Vibrio vulnificus reported in 1999 than the year before: a total of 22 compared to 36 for the previous year.  There were 14 shellfish consumption related cases with 10 deaths, 6 wound related with 3 deaths and 2 unknown exposures with no deaths. In 1997, there were 6 shellfish consumption related cases with 3 deaths, and 11 wound cases with 2 deaths.
